H.O.P.E.
Helping Ordinary People Everyday, Inc.
The only survivor-founded and survivor-led nonprofit of its kind in the U.S. Virgin Islands—serving survivors of sexual assault and domestic violence through the lens of Black and Afro-Caribbean healing, advocacy, and the arts.
Serving St. Croix · St. Thomas · St. John · Water Island
Beyond Crisis
Crisis intervention saves lives—shelter, advocacy, healthcare, and safety planning all matter. But eventually another question emerges: now what? What happens when a survivor is safe, but still has to rebuild confidence, financial stability, relationships, identity, and hope?
We don't only ask, “What happened to you?” We also ask, “What do you need now, what matters to you, and who do you want to become next?”
Support groups, therapeutic partnerships, creative expression, and movement.
Financial education, career development, entrepreneurship, and mobility.
Art, dance, storytelling, and movement as sources of resilience.
Confidence, goal-setting, leadership, and possibility beyond violence.
Survivor-centered spaces to connect without being defined by survivorship.
H.O.P.E. occupies the vital middle space between immediate crisis response and a survivor's fully self-defined future.
Strengthening the Territory's Response
Beyond direct service, H.O.P.E. works to strengthen the systems, organizations, and partnerships surrounding survivors—connecting victim service providers, healthcare and behavioral health professionals, law enforcement, educators, and community organizations across the Territory.
Our goal isn't to duplicate existing work; it's to connect, strengthen, and expand our Territory's collective capacity to respond to sexual violence.
Trauma-informed, culturally responsive capacity building.
Convening providers, agencies, and community partners.
Identifying barriers across the Territory.
Supporting protocols that improve institutional response.
Responses shaped by culture, geography, and island life.
Lived experience informing programs and policy.

Our Mission
H.O.P.E. provides survivor-centered support, advocacy, and education, ensuring every individual affected by sexual assault and domestic violence has access to comprehensive, compassionate care and resources through the lens of Black and Afro-Caribbean healing, advocacy, and the arts.
Our vision is to create a culture of healing in community by cultivating hope through the arts—honoring the resilience, traditions, and identity of the communities we serve.
“H.O.P.E. is more than an organization—it is a movement.”

You are more than what happened to you—more than a case number, a diagnosis, or a statistic. You are a whole person, with culture, creativity, dreams, and purpose.
We will not define healing for you. We work to create the resources, relationships, and opportunities that let you define it for yourself—because the goal isn't simply surviving. It's having the freedom to build the life that comes after.
